What happened to league of legends on a Mac?
Riot Games has officially stopped the OSX support for League of Legends, finishing after one year and one month of work with TransGaming and Mac beta phase testing. The Mac beta client was shut down “Till Further Notice” at 12 a.m. on September 6, 2011. LoL Mac addicts, if you don’t run windows in a dual boot format on your mac, this makes a good reason to do so. Riot hasn’t closed the possibility of a league of legends mac version in the future, but it probably will not be happening any time soon.
A QUOTE from the LoL team: “We realize our current approach regarding the Mac platform won’t guarantee the quality and frequent updates we deliver today on the PC and are expected by our player community. We will continue to investigate the opportunity to provide player access on the Mac Platform in the future that aligns with our service and content update standards. We are committed to building a solution that will work on the Mac in the long run, but it will take some time.”
Mac beta testers who used the store can keep their accounts open and continue playing on PC, or receive a full refund on their purchases, which would close the account entirely. As consolation, Riot will give all Mac testers a code to unlock the Champions Pack, which can be redeemed if a majority of your logins come from the league of legends mac client and you entered the Store before the service was shut down.
Update for League of legends on macs
League of Legends is a great fun game that can be enjoyed on pc and also on mac. Its much easier to install league of legends or LoL for short on a personal computer system running windows xp or above. However once you get onto the mac system you begin to have a lot more trouble with it. Installation is not as simple as running the exe file you download. You have to go through a much longer procedure but it can still be worth it in the end.
LoL Is one of those games you can play for hours on end and usually not get bored. Sometimes you need to change the character you play with otherwise It can get a bit slow. I also recommend playing with a group of friends over a voice module such as skype. This keeps you interested as well as being very useful for ingame you do not need to type if someone goes missing etc. If all you want to do is hunt for the other players I’d recommend going into the neutral zone to find someone on lower health points.
This tactic makes for a great early game strategy and ultimately a good team game. However don’t be surprised if they are already waiting and ready for your attack. People in this game are very switched on. We are in a new era now where gamming is so easy over our fast speed internet. I remember when we use to have dial up and everyone use to lag along. Not anymore. Sometimes you will find a player with a slow computer which holds up all the other people loading up LoL when you first begin a game. This can be a big pain in the bum as you have to sit there just waiting and playing with yourself or snacking.
I often like to have a few snacks at the computer table ready for when the hunger man comes to visit. This makes playing LoL for extended periods of time much easier. Also don’t forget to hydrate as you don’t want to lose your focus or you will play and lose game after game. Having short breaks is also recommended so you don’t get any cramps in your body. Often I will be playing on Tryndamere(my favorite OP character) and I need to get up and go for a walk.
If you have trouble using the shortcuts in LoL you can always change them using the main menu. In the menu it has options for swapping around the shortcut keys to various other keys as well as video and sound options. Make sure you run the biggest and best resolution for your screen and ultimately for your PC or Mac’s processing power. Its not worth having a high resolution if your frames per second(FPS) is under 30 as that will make it near impossible to play properly. TV programs run at around 25 frames per second but our eyes can see at over 100 frames per second! That means if you look really hard at a tv show you can see the individual frames as our processing power is more than any PC or Mac on earth.
Picking your favorite character is never an easy task. Sometimes you like this one, and sometimes you like that one. That’s fine. But I find it very useful to specialize in a few different characters and types of builds. This way you know exactly what times to buy next and how much they will cost. If you get lost you can always default to buying the recommended items. Though often that can build your character well rounded but no edge in any of the different type of attack or defense. Opt for less armor and more attack damage if your have a fast attack speed. Life steal is a must. That is one of the first items I buy when playing any of the fast attacking characters. Even if you dont have much armor or HP(hit points) If you can attack back fast enough with enough force you are constantly healing yourself like a vampire with life steal. Often times you will need to get even more life steal by the end of the game so that you don’t die much when playing league of legends on mac and PC.
Using stun to stun your opponents is a must in this game. If you don’t stun them, they will stun you. Believe me. I’ve been there. The amount of players in this game keeps increases each day and as a result the competitiveness is very good and sometimes the younger fellers do well with their impressive reaction time and just plain hand eye coordination. Since they have been brought up with computers they are use to them and know how to work the keyboard and mouse like they use their legs for walking(Possibly even better on the pc than in real life).
